Hi
Yesterday i purchased a 1989 Metro Clubman L to run around in whilst i do my red city up properly. its done 79,000 miles and has been dry stored for the past 17 years and only used in nice weather so the car is clean. The car isnt mint and will require me to do a few things. But for now the plans i have are to get rid of the metric wheels as i dont trust 22yr old tyres and just give it a service and waxoil.

Please feel free to comment on the car.
Thanks Josh

Looks great!

You're right about the tyres, I too wouldn't trust them. I'm sure that non metric tyres will fit, be a shame to lose the steels.

i might just put some standard metro wheels on off a mk1 or the steels off my mini mini city because with the trims on you shouldnt notice anyway, got to paint the bonnet and give the car a full polish then the outside will be sorted. Its just little things it wants really.

Another metro owner! Welcome to the dark side!! Lol i got 3 currently, can be as addictive as minis, but a hell of a lot cheaper! Ive scrapped a few over the years after they became organ donors, but currently i have a 1984 mk1 1300L on 10" steelies, a '88 metro clubman donor car, and a 1 owner from new barn find basic spec beige mk1 thats been sat for 18years unused!

another metro owner, welcome to the club!

my very first car was a 1275 metro clubman l like yours, same colour and same blue dash and seats, i put gold cross spokes on it and in my head it was a williams clio! they had just come out then but i couldnt afford one, so the 'tro it was.

then i got into minis and it all went down hill from there until i got my mk1 metro.

that was a month or so back now, since then i got a hydrolastic pump, chopped the trumpets and lowered/stiffened it, fitted some gaz adjustables on the front, and got myself a janspeed manifold and full system. which has drastically improved it.

its about time they started to get some respect too, its no exaggeration that every time i go out in mine some one comments on how nice it is, and when your sat in traffic you can read people lips as they drive past gawping! my last mini was a fantastic car, great spec, good looker, but it never used to get any attention, even at shows. should have got a metro sooner!

The Austin ones are really rare, I'm not surprised people gawp! Having a Mini and being on this forum has got me liking weird things like Metros.... I used to be a Ford man ahhhhh! O_O

But can the OP confirm they are the original tyres? 79,000 miles and 22 years they must be bald as coots! Get rid ASAP

EDIT: Nice clean Metro by the way

I just swapped my barn find metro for one thats the same year, base spec, that has no engine, but the bodywork is in great shape, needs a passenger wing (which i have) a few bits touching up, a good session with mr mop n polish, and its ready for me to drop in a honda civic engine, ill post pics up on my thread in any other projects later to show what its like ;)
