Hey All,

I've currently on the research stage of my latest Uni project , inwhich is to look at ways of improving a daily journey, of a persons everyday commute - whether that be walking, in a car, bus, train etc.

Im looking for peoples opinions on the subject, the aim of the project is to make a product or development of transport to make it a good commuting daily journey.

Any suggestions for 1 + 2 would be greatly appreciated. :

1. The bane of my journey to workplace / education / etc is..... (walking, bus, train, car)

2. My Daily Journey could be made better by.....

On average how long do you spend per day travelling?

Thanks in advance for looking, any reply is much appreciated =]

Sam

I go to college via the London underground. It's stressful, smelly, expensive and people are genuinely rude.

My journey could be made better by the trains having air conditioning. (Or a cheaper option. People bother with deodorant ;)

On average a day I spend an Hour travelling.

1. I drive my Mini to work everyday.

2. My daily journey could be made better by not having to be stuck behind drivers that insist on doing 10 mph under the speed limit!

3. I spend about half an hour a day on driving if it's just work but on the odd occasion when I have training or I'm going somewhere it may be an hour..

Im not sure if my answers will benafit your work but there ya go.

I my Mini drive about an hour on the motorway to Uni. My journey would be vastly improved if people used lanes properly. Also, if I had better soundproofing. And if rush hour traffic was eased. My journey takes about 50% longer with heavy traffic.

I drive my astra from my house to work or from my garages to work. Usually a 25 minuet car journey one way. Route consists of country lanes and A roads.

Problems with my journey: No free car parking. Lack of public transport. Public transport that does exist doesn't run when I need it to.

I either have to park by my sisters house which is a 10 minuet walk away after the drive or I leave my car in the car park and chance it. Maximum stay is 3 hours, minimum shift I work is 4. Other local towns near me don't have any parking charges or hourly restrictions, just Market Drayton.

Solution: Provide parking permits or allow us to park in the loading bay after midday. The fault lies with the council not the people I work for. Wilkinsons have written to the council about it but the council tell us to use public transport if we don't want to pay for car parking. The bus would work out more expensive and there isn't one at 9 pm when I finish or on a Sunday.

1. I drive to and from work for about an hour
2. It could be made better, by not having to go to work in the first place.
Seriously though, I leave at a nice hour so experince little hastle getting to work, but i do notice that people are in such a rush in the mornings, and take silly dangerous risks

Car, train, bus, walk. About and hour each way. I enjoy the journey, it's great people watching.

If the bus could be more frequent, that would be great. I hope you can do something about it, thanks!

p.s. I can text the bus stop and it'll tell me when the next 4 buses are coming so that curbs the problem somewhat.

Car or SUV...19km drive takes about 20 min including obligatory stop at Starbucks or Tim Hortons for coffee in the morning, along secondary highway and a rural road. Could be made better by secondary highways in my part of the world having paved shoulders so that the many gravel trucks (a gravel lorry in England?) wouldn't then kick up rocks. My windshield on my SUV is already dinged in a couple spots.

I leave my home at 6:30am for the 6:35am bus to the train station. Get there at about 6:45am and buy a ham & cheese toastie and a cup if tea for the journey. Train departs at 7:06am and I get to the town I work in at 7:28am. I then wait at a bus stop for the company's shuttle bus which arrives at 7:35am. I then get to the work gate at 7:45am and walk 5 minutes to the building. Have a hit chocolate, buy a Wispa bar and start work at about 7:55am.

Then I finish at 5:45pm. Get the last shuttle to the train station at 5:55pm. Get to the train station at about 6:06pm. Get the 6:08pm train home. Arrive at about 6:32pm. Quick-walk to the bus station and get the 6:37pm bus home. Wall indoors at around 7pm.

So there is a lot of commuting.

I also sometimes work Saturdays - which I am today. Buses don't start early enough for be to get to work on time so the only public transport I get is a train.

Leave home around 5:30am. Get to train station about 6:15am. Get 6:24am train. Arrive in work town at about 6:44am. Walk to work, arriving there at about 7:30am.

Finish work at 12pm. Sometimes 1pm. The following would be for a 12pm finish but is the same for a 1pm finish, really. Just an hour later.

Finish work at 12pm. Walk the 45 minutes to the train station. Can't remember what time the train is but would be a max 20 or 30 minute wait. Sometimes I stop at KFC if I'm peckish. Then 20 minute train ride home.

1) The bane of my journey is not so much the journey, but the time I'm away from home. I work 8am-5:45pm but have to leave at 6:35am and I get home around 7pm. Which means I miss office hours if I need to phone an office that is only open 9-5. But I phone on my break if needs be.

2) Saying that, my journey could be made better if the train didn't get so crowded but it only really gets crowded one stop before mine.

Oh and more sexy girls on my journey wouldn't go amiss. Was surrounded by 4 babes yesterday morning. Talk about morning glory!

PS I can't wait until my car has MOT and tax. Will make my commute SO much easier!

I either cycle or run to work all year round.

This could be made better by drivers on the road not ignoring my signals to turn right when I'm cycling. I also notice a lot of people not indicating at round-a-bouts which makes life scary at the best of times.

Running is problem free.....well apart from people who don't clean up after there dogs.

Cycling takes on average 10 minutes and 45 seconds and running is 16 minutes 32 seconds to cover the 2.3miles one way. Crossing busy roads and a foot bridge slow me down slightly.
