Howdy.
Got a 998 and going to fit a freeflow exhaust manifold with rc40 exhaust.
Problem is the standard inlet and exhaust manifolds are cast as one piece.
So I need to either buy a inlet manifold... or cut the old one.
I've heard of people doing this. I dont care how hard the material is to cut as we've got pretty much any tool to do it. What I want to know is if I do separate the manifolds...
1) Will the Inlet be left with enough material where I cut it?
2) Will I gain enough clearance between the exhaust manifold and inlet?
I know inlets arn't all that expensive and would be easier, I just want to know my options for my bdget build.
Any help is appreciated.
Cheers!
Is it possible

In general terms yes it can be done, but the time and effort needed to do it out strip the cost of an alloy manifold quite a few times over. plus they are a better shape.

Nah, he hasn't, just asked him.
Ah well, Ill look out for a cheao one and if that fails ill have a go at cutting it.
Is there any specific I should be looking for? Its a standard 998 with what I presume is a 1.25 carb.

im guessing you'll get better performance from your exhaust with one of these anyway.
if you havent already bought the exhaust, then just buy a stage 1 kit. comes with everything you need and its cheaper to buy it in one go.

if you do get an alloy inlet manifold , be carfull when fitting as often the flanges on the inlet are thicker than the exhaust flanges....
i used 1/2 washers to take up the difference.

if youre not using the exhaust part, then cut as far away from the inlet part ass possible to make sure you dont break through to the ports, the use an angle grinder etc to remove the excess. you could always port it aswell to make it flow better.
