i want to put a standard one back on, minispares say that 24 quid is a fraction of the retail price...
does anyone have a spare one lying around that i could buy off them?
so if i do get one, ive heard i should drill the housing for better flow? and put a k&n element in it. which is another 25 squids anyway!
ive got an AAA needle in there, standard 998 apart from the stage 1. do you think i'll need a different needle again?
or if anyone knows of a better filter i should get?
cheers

Just out of curiosity, how does your new filter leak air?
Isnt it suposed to do that by the nature of it cleaning the air??
Though if its one of those K&N ones and the cork gasket is NOT used, the scew on the back plate stops it seating correctly

Would anyone care to explain why the cone filters are lame? I was looking at getting a stage one kit which would contain a K&N cone filter for my 998 engine.
Not so sure now though.
Nothing wrong with the K&N if its installed properly. Though steff has not said which filter he has and where it is leaking.
Id suspect it is not installed correctly as there are many peaple who have no problems, well not like this one
The replacement filters in the original air box, modded or not, are still more restrictive than the cone, they are a little quieter though but cutting holes in the box makes it louder any way.
I have just re read your first post and I suspect you got one of those silly foam filters which are as much use as chocolate fan on a hot day. Buy a K&N every time and you will never need to buy another.

the noise is not that much more than a std filter , maybe 'because the bulkhead foam sound proof is still intact...
the difference a k+n element in a standard case would make is little & would hardy be noticable on a 998 standard set up.
at least now i dont have to shell out £5 every 6 months for a crappy paper element !
