Same basket as Deathrow. Currently do 350 miles a week while I find somewhere to live! If I push my Mini it gets 40mpg so I generally take the daily car which manages 52-54mpg.

You can throw as many gallons as you like at my Mini, it'll do zero miles.
My commute is in a 1.1 106, manages similar to you TommyBoy, if I nurse it I can get 56 mpg but it's so slow I tend to rag it everywhere in order to keep up with traffic! Poor thing.

Modern cars are so economical in terms of mpg. My old 998 Cooper in 1964 used to do about 36 to 38 mpg, dropping to low 30's when I hurried. Now my 2.5 litre BMW petrol does 35 mpg at a higher speed than myn old Cooper and my wife's Mondeo 2.0 TDCi does 55 mpg on average.
To think I used to do 500+ miles per week in a Mk.1 Cortina GT which did about 22 mpg.

And the new Mondeo is with a 1.0 litre engine 118bhp is about to come out thats pretty economical.

About 6 mile round trip 4 days per week plus maybe 3 at weekends = approx 30 miles per week
Which costs circa £30 pw - what ever that cost will be for mpg as i can never work it out!
