(it makes me laugh)
My Sony ericsson cybershot has survived numerous drops and has a decent camera built in. Better still they are cheaper than an iphone by a lot, smaller so fit in your pocket easier, non touch screen so your not bothered about using it with greasy or dirty hands and no-one is going to bother to nick it.

I was a bit sceptical about iphone and concerned that I would just be jumping on the Apple bandwagon and paying out for nothing more than branding. But in the end when the iphone 5 came out, it was all the great deals available on the iphone 4s that was actually the deciding factor for me.
I'm now completely sold on iphone, I think that you may well get more for your money with other smartphones out there, but once you get used to how Apple devices and applications operate, you soon start to dislike anything windows based. I'm now a complete Apple convert, I've got an ipad on order, and when my PC eventually gives up i'll be going down the apple route there too. As it was explained to me, "You either love or hate Apple, but it tends to be those people that have an Apple device that love them and those that don't who hate them!!"
As for protection, the Griffin Survivor case is what you need. I'm a clumsy accident prone oaf, and this thing has saved my iphone a number of times already. It's actually designed for military use and whilst it doesn't' make your phone completely indestructible it's as close to indestructible as your gonna get, when you drop your phone with the case on it just seems to bounce and whilst it isn't actually waterproof, it certainly is pretty water resistant.

You should of saw the state of my old iPhone 3g, yet the screen only had a few little marks on it. That was one hell of a strong and reliable phone.

He dropped it from a low height getting into a car and the screen smashed to pieces. I dropped my samsung galaxy s from alot higher, several times and not even a scratch

For me its all about the Samsung galaxy's. S3 is an amazing phone. I just think personally that the iphones are too much about the hype and branding when there are better phones out there.
Also you have to pay for alot of the apps and stuff which i can't stand.
No one has suggested Blackberry's? My dad has one and thats a great phone as well. Especially as it has the touchscreen and slide out keyboard.
