As long as both outer races have been fully seated in the hub, then that gap is fine.

Are the outer races in as far as you can get them? Flush against the inner lip in the middle of the hub?

Yes they are all the way in. Cheers for the reassurance!

No problem dude, I hope it all goes well!

I did these recently on my car for the first time, had plenty of questions too.

Simon.

All done!

A bit of a problem getting the assembly over the shaft. There was a small ring of 'crud' , which is also why I needed a hub puller!

All cleaned up and it slid right on! All bolted up again wheel on and then a 30 minute drive no noises etc.

Pretty proud of myself to be honest. The biggest job I have done on a car!.
I have had the mini for three and a half years, owning it really does push you learn.

I even now work on my modern BMW.

Big thanks again to everyone who offered guidance.

Just wait until you have to do the ball joints too!

What a nightmare I had with those.

Well done :proud:

I absolutly always grease the driveshaft splines with copper grease before sliding it through the hub and plenty of it!
Copper grease is the dogs!

Did that, though once I had slid the hub on as not to get copper grease inside the bearing assembly

Good stuff
i find minis actualy have a very odd arrangment in terms of how the hub and disk attachs. Iv worked on modern cars enough where the hub flange is often press fit to the bearings and disk on the outside  but hey thats just me and just a an assembly process change! still good to use grease on the cv's to aid dis-assembly, not to mention id have been castrated if i had assembles a hub without grease.
I also always grease the flanges and wheel studs. Tightening torque has to be adjusted if greasing threads though.
