Excellent idea, you always need a spare. I've developed a system for buying over the years and its utterly foolproof.

1 - Buy Mini
2 - Take mini off the road to look after and keep dry
3 - buy 2nd mini to use whilst 1st one is being adored
4 - Spend time and money on both and refuse to use either because they're 'too special'
5 - Realise that you don't stand a chance of driving either
6 - Buy another mini to use, and end up thinking its too special as well
7 - Repeat steps 1 through 6 until skint/out of space/divororced

Its a brilliant system!!

For us less mechanically minded I've amended it

1 - Buy Mini
2 - Take mini off the road to restore
3 - buy 2nd mini to use whilst 1st one is being worked on
4 - Spend the time and money put aside for fixing mini#1 on #2
5 - Realise that you don't stand a chance of getting either of them on the road anytime soon.
6 - Buy another mini to use whilst the first 2 are being worked on
7 - Repeat steps 1 through 6 until skint/out of space/divororced

Its a brilliant system!!

Just showed this to the missus........ she wasn't amused!!

I've not fully decided yet. I'm tempted because it's going to look a bit shabby, so taking the shabby to extremes might be a bit of fun, plus it will annoy those who hate rat look (or "prat look" to some :P). Plus I've already got one nice shiny mini, if I don't do something different with this one I'll just end up smartening it up until it ends up looking like a silver version of the one I already have, and where would the fun be in that?

Not a great deal really, I've spent a lot of time trying to get hold of all the parts that are missing. The pile of bits keeps getting bigger and bigger, whilst my bank balance keeps getting smaller. >_<

I have had a better look at the door bottoms though, and whilst I knew that filler can hide all manner of sins, I've discovered that duct tape can be even worse!! :ohno:

Luckily though, I've had two reasonable doors sitting in my garage for the past 15 years or so, that I bought to replace the rotten one's on my ex's mini (I'm guessing that she probably doesn't want them any more!!)

A quick lick of paint and they now look presentable enough (just realised that they're actually shown in the pile of parts pictured above)

They're a used set of "Minators" actually, (because i'm a right tightwad and this is supposed to be a cheap project!)!........ But they look pretty similar at a quick glance, so I'm happy with 'em!!

Rat looks cool on certain cars, but It does need rusted bumpers - Rat look but like a rolls royce interior ha! Contrast.
