right guys here's a tricky one for ya first of all ill tell you what i have checked to save you thinking it could be one of the following:
  • wheel alignment(tracking)
  • wheel balance all 4 wheels checked and re balanced
  • wheel bearings checked plus replaced rear near side
  • ball joints checked for play
  • track rod ends checked
  • suspension all checked (dampers and rubber plus assemblies)
  • both rear radius arms rebuilt
  • sub frame mounts checked
  • rack and pinion checked for play and has none
  • not tram lining
  • plastic steering column bushes replaced (top and bottom)
  • Tyre pressures
  • solid subframe mounts
  • tyres checked to be concentric
okay i think that's most of the options ive explored now and im still stumped, had a few mechanics take a took as well who are all oblivious to what the cause could be,

now to explain the problem
when i am driving along especially at speeds 50mph + in a straight line it feels like the car is pulling about (think of a heavy gust of wind blowing you about) this feels quite unsafe to me and my dad has confirmed that it feels strange, really stuck on ideas to what could be causing this now,

any ideas would be greatly appreciated thanks again people :)

jonny

any ideas people?

My mum's Bora was awfull at the same sort of speed. The tyre pressures were the issue, even though they didn't look that soft, they were miles out!

Have you checked the front subframe mounts?
I've just sorted a 2001 cooper doing the same thing. The mounts were fine as far as the MOT is concerned, but had gone soft allowing it to wander. Several people had checked the tracking and suggested its the big wheels, or even a bent subframe
50mph was the limit as it was just plain scary to drive.

Rear sub mounts, both the rubber bushes and the condition of the bodywork where the sub is bolted to? Rear trailing arm mounts, hairline cracks etc?

Are you sure you have the proper bolt pattern. Some wheels will fit but are ever so slighly off.
Enough to cause sway at hi speeds.
Also, has there ever been any damage to the shell whe the subframes could be slightly out of alignment.
We call it dog legging here in the U.S.
The only other thing I can think of is the diff and drive shafts.
