Mrs Max needs the Volvo for school runs, sooo I want something cheap, high mpg as I'l be driving 100miles per day that I'l probably change/trade in every year of so
Budget up to £2500
I'm thinking Audi A2 tdi or Fiesta tdci both get over 60mpg
Any others to consider that I wont HATE driving?

Buy a seat Ibiza tdi! You'll pay a premium for the Audi and they're a bit tinny!
Hmmm .. 80mpg sounds good

I'd be keeping most of my money in my pocket and buying an MG ZR diesel. Great fun to drive, a bit sporty, ultra simple to fix and maintain. A big diesel engine thats dragging around a small bosy as well=50+ mpg.
PLus you can take it on MG runs as well, its a winner on all levels!

it's a little diesel that's been great, used every day for work and i only fill it up every 8 weeks
you can pick up clio and 206 vans really cheaply and end up with a 2 seater with large boot

How about a small 3 cylinder petrol - Seat ibiza 1.2 12v.
These are terrible engines. Very common for jumping teeth on the timing chain
Have to split part of the engine to fix it

Or pug 306 diesel. Incredibly cheap & solid engines capable of 200k for both these cars

Polo or the little seat can have the same 1.4tdi lump! My misses had the Ibiza 1.9 tdi fr and that was like hot **** off a chrome shovel and returned 55 mpg, up to 65 on a run! I'm getting low to mid 50s from my 2.2 td Mazda 6

If you're gonna be clocking up the miles then you'll be better of buying a high mileage car. Better to do that than pay a premium for a low mileage car that you promptly turn into a high mileage one!

A high mileage car doesnt bother me seeing as I'm going to be hammering it anyway.....
Like the Golfs, use to have a Renault and to be fair it was reliable little car, not sure on the Seats
MPG is the main criteria or I'm better off on the train!
