Hi Guys and Girls,

I have an MG Metro Carb and inlet manifold kicking around at the moment with a view to using the manifold as part of a stage 1 kit on my 998. Am i best to ditch the HIF44 and replacing with a HIF38, or will my HS4 fit on it OK? I mainly do comuting through town so a lot of sub 40 mph driving is called for.

I fully intend to get it set on a rolling road once all fitted so any suggestions are greatly welcomed.

Cheers

Matt

go for a hif 38 as the hif 44 will be a bit large for the 998. the hs4 will fit and be ok.

Is the MG Metro inlet manifold the same as the Metro Turbo manifold? I have one of the later and am considering fitting it to my (still) standard 998cc

Vizard says the MG manifold is really pretty good as standard - a little bit of work can be done to make it better, but not a lot.

The Metro-Manifold is pretty good!

But also designed for big carbs like HIF44 / HS6 are.
For a standart 998 HS6 or HIF44 is far too big!

I would rather use an HIF38 or HIF4 (like HIF38, but fittingpoints like HS4).
But the HS4 is realy enough for standart 998 as well.

I had an HIF44 on my Mini when i bought it.
The engine was running - but with the original HS4 it finaly felt healthy :-

An other problem is, that the inlet-diameter of the HIF44 / HS6 inlet-manifold is bigger than the diameter of the HS4 / HIF38.
So there`s a sharp edge when fitting a HS4 / HIF38 on the "big" bridge.
Such an setup will run - but gas-flow will not be that good as if using a smaler inlet-manifold designed for HS4 / HIF38.
I`m pretty sattisfied with the MINISPARES manifold from original Stage1 kit (i guess).

But i`m thinking that you`r not gonna build a racing-engine ;)
So HIF38 on the Metro-Inlet will be ok!

Greeting,
Jan

PS: But that`s only my opinion :P
