i had the exact same question in my assignment on engine cooling, fuelling and lubrication systems in the BTEC in motor vehicle technology course.

best engines to compare would be an air cooled, petrol, dry sumped porsche engine and a water cooled, diesel water cooled engine!
just because you can compare 100% as they are completly different

if you want any more info PM me:)

You have the whole of the internet at your disposal, pretty much the entire collected knowledge of the human race, and you can't find any information?

I do find it strange (being quite old) that coursework/homework now appears to consist of posting the questions directly on yahoo Answers or a relevant forum rather than looking it up and working it out yourself...

But I'm probably just a silly old fool... Posted Image

I am using the internet to find my answer. I was hoping that this site would be able to give me an more direct insight to this question, being as it is a MINI forum. I have a pretty good idea about this question, but was hoping to speak to someone directly that had some experience of this. I dont want to cause any trouble as this is a great forum, just wanted to get some extra help.

We are primarily a mini forum not the new BMW mini and I dont know of anyone on here who runs a modern mini racer you may get more luck on the mini2 forum but you may still struggle to find someone on there running one as I think it's mostly factory teams?

Don't mind those guys, they are just really clever... Yeah....

This is a classic mini forum, not a huge amount of people deal with the new MINI's here:).

Our engines have the gearbox and engine share the same oil.... Hahaha

Could you not compare the new mini engine against a Kent FF dry sump engine?

+ I did this question in my Motorsport Engineering course too.

Hi Oakrichardson.

I couldn't resist a commenting on your post as I have two daughters at school and I'm forever telling them that when I was at college we had to go to the library for our research. There would usually be a mad rush to the college or public library at the end of class as it was likely that the library would only have one or two books with the relevant info. If the book was out you had to find who had it and arrange access to it. There is no doubt that information is very much easier to come by these days and is available 24/7 at home, work, college or pretty much anywhere in-between.

Our comments are light hearted, welcome to TMF!

Graham.

I did a comparison on the A series and the K series engine on the Dynos.
That was about 12 years ago!! It was graded in the 90+%

I am getting old but the homework remains the same LOL.

Hi,

the question is relating to one of the cars that the college runs as well. Its a ford VTEC engine that I have to compare.

I just wanted to know if there is anything massively different on a MINI race wet sump as opposed to a mini road car, otherwise I can just talk about how a wet sump works, advantages, disadvantages etc.

don't want to offend anyone!

Hi

In mine we flow tested the heads and then rebuild and tested them both on the dyno; this was before the internet.

Its good to look at the Power and Torque graphs and discuss what characteristics of the engine caused the differences in the graphs.
If you do not have access to an engine dyno the David Vizard books are a good read.

Where are you studying? I think the fav Motorsport Courses are Oxford Brookes or Swansea?

J

hi,

its a L3 diploma at ocvc in Bicester. I want to work in the Motorsport industry, in the long term with my own business, but do not want to go to uni, especially as at the moment I can study and make good money that I hope to put toward a business.
