All, concerns understood regarding confidential info. The register data is not available online except for a high level listing of number of car types (e.g. Sevens, Sports etc), colours, country location, which is interesting statistics, nor does anyone have access to the detailed data. The info stored does not contain personal information about the owners, it only contains info that is readily available via the internet should you wish to pay for it, or in the case of some of the info for free via the DLVA.
The purpose of the registers is to track and establish facts and details on the cars, and to assist where possible in establishing the authenticity of any vehicle should someone be uncertain and in need of help when purchasing.
This is the concept that we have been running the Cooper Sport 500 register with since 2003. The Cooper Register also hold numerous seperate secure registers for the same reasons, and indeed I have been in contact with the Rover Cooper Registrar on numerous occasions this year on the subject matter.
At the end of the day, its understandable wanting to keep VIN, Reg and vehicle details out of the public domain, and that indeed is how it should be. Supplying any such details are done on the understanding that the details will never be released to the public or published in any detail to enable vehicles to be put at risk. VIN and numerplate combinations will never be published online by the register.
I do not and would never expect everyone to share their data, but be rest assured any data kept is secure and not available to anyone else, except unless you pay for the likes of a an HPi check on a vehicle - which anyone can do from simply seeing a numberplate on a mini driving down the road - no one can stop that.
If you still have concerns over this, feel free to contact me on
[email protected] to dicuss, but at the end of the day, if you still feel uncomfortable with sharing any data, don't do it!
Regards,
Andy
