Hi

Sorry no tips but a couple of questions; how many litres of paint have you used so far?
You are not far from me; where did you buy your paint?

Hi Jason, 1st things 1st i got the paint off ebay ( link: http://www.ebay.co.u...984.m1439.l2649 ) and im no pro but it seems good enough?! so far this has been plenty and would definately finish the car! we would have done 9 coats but this is not turning out to be 11 and i think it should just about manage! i have about 0.75 of a liter left which + thinners i hope should do it! also its worth noting that i have only done the outside of the car including the door reveals and inside of doors so if your doing the inside you might need some more although i would have thought there would be enough to do the lot just i mucked up lol

As for the clear coat of lacquer from the research I've done cellulose doesn't need a clear coat maybe someone could advise?

But could not remember how much I used when I last painted a Mini 20 years ago. These packs on Ebay should do the trick then. I used to use a paint place in Manor Park and one in Romford years ago but they are probably long gone now and a long way from Colchester.

No there is no need for a clear coat over cellulose paint. It is my choice as it gives a deeper shine and you can keep flatting it back if you get problems and add more coats. You will get there in the end just keep at it. I will look forward to the next instalment.

Here is the finished paint job and well what can i say its amazing! sort of..... just not very shiny I'm hoping it will polish out so that i can admire myself and Jacques in it! its silky smooth like a baby's bot bot so that's all good! next job is polishing it! that's coming on Saturday should be exciting! any advice as usual is always welcome!! oh yea and there were no waterfalls this time!!!!!!!! woooooooooooooooooooo!!!! hope your all OK!!

Well last night i thought id have a quick go over the wing and boot lid with the mop polisher thingy and see how it came out and i'm really quite impressed! think we may have done an OK paint job wooooo! have posted some pics but there not that great hopefully get some more on here when it has finished! fingers crossed we'll have it finished by the end of the year!

Well yesterday was the most glorious of days the sun was out the sky was blue and Stanley well what can we say about Stanley erm...... he's like my dad a stubborn old goat that doesn't like help or looking after but alas we are pressing forward with slow but fulfilling progress its fairly magical to be honest check out the almost finished paintwork!! well proud of it for a first attempt! what do you guys think?








Anyway after a we bit of hard work polishing the ol' girls Stanley's looking almost tip top! couple of goings over again and he'll be mint!! i hope anyway!

Now yesterday afternoon it was time for stanley to try and start again but he was being so difficult nothing would make him start!! so off came the carb and the inlet as it was to tight to just take the carb off funny pic below as jack got poo'd on by stan as the coolant pipe came off! by the way if someone knows what carb this is would be cool! it measured 1.75" anyway back to stan..... took the carb apart cleaned it all as it was well gunked up! put it back tried to start it again nothing! we then took the distributor apart and checkd the gap and adjusted checked the spark in the dizzy then checked the spark on the plugs all fine there's fuel coming through and its still not starting and..... oh my word its soooooo annoying! then the battery died so it went on charge! the only thing were unsure of is the firing order so if anyone has any info on that would be cool! we know its 1,3,4,2 but we dont no which lead from the distributor is 1 etc. and also which side of the engine is 1 etc. so that's most likely the problem! Hope your all ok!

Carb's a Hif44

Splashing a little fresh petrol in to the throat is a good way of showing up if the carb's to blame for not starting. Line up the timing marks and the rotor arm should be pointing at the plug lead for either cylinder 1 or 4. Looking at the valves will tell which should be firing, or a blast of compressed air down the plug hole will show which one has open valves and not firing. The leads go on the dizzy in order anticlockwise, one is usually nearest the thermostat..

Re firing order, I use another method; 1-2-4-3, going clockwise on the dizzy cap with 1 being the dizzy cap connection roughtly pointing at what I refer to as cylinder 1 (nearest the radiator), so then going clockwise the next one 'round goes to cylinder 2, and so on.

Well today was a most glorious of days Stanley decided to finally give in and burst in to life!! fina-flipping-ly i think it was the epic-ly hearty breakfast i made gotta be on your a game if your gonna be caring out such an amazingly high variety of car shizzle anyway back on track we went out there and tore it up turns out it needed a new rotor arm, we changed the spark plugs as well even though we did it last year and he started more or less straight away! bo-yea! anyway now were onto wiring but its to difficult anyone fancy some beer vouchers?! the wiring isnt horrendous but we cant get the dials to work at all (not sure if they did originally!) so any ideas or help would be much appreciated! anyone got any idea as to what the engine is from the engine number?! its a bit corroded so I don't have a clue!!

next job was to warm ourselves up so I had a genius idea!!! make a fire! what more would you need!! then i decided to tidy up and a lot of plastic went on and made it a bit smokey poor ol' Stan and Jacques!!

Does anyone np what Speedo cable would be required as mine snapped! Sorting out the wiring a mission there's so much to do its just a pain! Got most of the lights working now though! None of the dials work though anyone got any ideas for that?

Have you got power to the fuse? The manual shows that the fuse connected to the red and red/green wires are for Side and tail lights, panel lights.
If so do you have power to the instrument voltage stabiliser? Check page 209 of the manual to see what you are looking for. The voltage stabilisers always go wrong.

That is a serious plate of food, and with those beans the stink would have been epic.
