i want to fit some rear shoes but not really sure what tools i need and how hard it is.

ive never done it but im told its straightforward. Get yourself a haynes manual, invaluable.

take off the wheel
loosen the brake adjuster (need a square spanner)
Undo the philips screw holding the drium to the hub
then pop off the drum itself
then its just a case of remving the springs and then replacing the shoes.

Put the car in gear with the handbrake off; loosen the rear wheel nuts (about 2 turns).
Then jack you both sides of the rear using the sub frame, support with axle stands.
Remove wheels and place out of the way, under the car is a good place that way if some thing did go wrong you still have the car in the air, plus stops you tripping over the things and hurting yourself.
Loosen the brake adjuster (anticlockwise wise) using a proper square brake spanner (the open end of an 8mm spanner works as well), if it's tight spray the adjuster with wd40, don’t force it or you will probably end up rounding it off (not good)
Undo the Phillips screw holding the drum to the hub and remove drum, if it’s tight shock it with a rubber mallet.
Remove shoes and springs and re fit new ones in reverse order.
While the drums are off DO NOT use the hand brake of the brake pedal, you will just end up with brake fluid all over the floor.
One done refit the drums and with the wheels still off pump the brake pedal and work the handbrake a few time s to centralise the shoes.
Now with the handbrake off turn the adjuster clockwise till the drum is locked (unable to be turned by hand) and back off half a turn at a time till the shoes can be felt just touching the drum but not sticking.
Go back and try the hand brake and pedal again, re check the adjustment and refit the road wheels and lower vehicle to ground.
Finally torque the wheel nuts up to 60nm or drive to a local garage to get them to check for ya.
