Can someone help me identify the original paint of my 1972 MK3, I think it's Black Tulip? as it's the right age for it and I think Aconite(?) looks bluer

You can see below on the photos the rear seat back is purple, I've also recently started repairing the floor and the same colour is under the underseal.

Also can anyone tell me what the interior would be?

as for the interior i think its meant to be the very dark blue mk3 seats. when i bought my mini they were not present but i have found a full set since and will give them a refurb. newton commercial do the proper covers even down to the proper grain leatherette, they are expensive to do but its worth it to keep them to original spec. has your mini got the ashtrays in the rear bins? if so be carfull if you buy a door card set and make sure the rear cards are cut to fit round the ashtrays.

Yes, looks like black tulip to me. My profile pic is my old 1972 1275 GT in its original colour, black tulip, my car had a red interior and carpets as standard. It is a rare colour and looks great. Before I restored/resprayed my car the paintwork looked exactly like yours, quite dusty and dry and it lost all of its depth of colour somehow .With new paint it looks amazing, almost black at night under street light but quite purple in bright sunlight. I don't know why more weren't sold in this colour.

Black Tulip would have come with a Geranium or Ochre interior

Posted Image

Geranium was a more darker red than shown on this colour chart. The Ochre is about right.

Found a pic of my old GT in the sun, a few years ago I did see a mkIII mini 1000 in black tulip with a red interior. It was an auto and look totally standard so maybe the red interior was an option on the 1000 as well as the GT.

Love Black Tulip, proper 70's colour, not like the common shades, nice and different

Sorry I posted that before seeing surfblues post. That makes sense with the geranium/red interior I had in my car and the mkIII 1000 I saw.

Black Tulip looks best with Geranium, but then I like a red interior.

Yep definetly a great colur combination, nice and 70's. I very stupidly thew away the original interior of my car in favour of a leather riley or wolsey interior I got hold of. Oh well I did things like that then and at least it was red.

Those paint and trim colours are interesting surfblue, I'm pretty sure early Glacier White GT's were available with a geranium interior and red side stripes and thats not listed as an option.

Glacier White was a long running colour and appeared on a few colour charts. I have an Austin one that does show Geranium as an interior option for Glacier White. I also have a later Morris one which has Sorrel (brown) as the only option for Glacier White.
