After the dry build comes the actual engine build:

F1E39234-D524-4626-B3E0-ABCF32F83EF5_zps

Purchased a kent MD274 camshaft to use, should give good driveability with the relatively high compression

63FB31F8-9666-43C9-81E8-29D09C66818C_zps

Got the cam in, lubed and timed:
BBB7CE25-8ECA-4F2F-BD27-93033612FF1E_zps

And finished building up the timing cover.
A35B4A9D-17EE-45AE-A94A-A913ACF93F62_zps

Also got a refurb kit for the plated clutch master cylinder:
DC5EE052-497F-4F39-A62A-4829EF43CD5D_zps

Brakes the same colour as the g/b, built up with mintex pads

DA919B48-3AFB-4E43-B683-4F25A87A9748_zps

Alternator modified so the pulleys line up:

Then I finished the shimming of drop gears and assembled the parts onto the engine

1CC34F08-5963-421F-9290-960C48D4437B_zps

Then fitted the high flow 1275 oil pump i'd modified for the 998 cam arrangement
29DB52E9-E348-49AF-A7D3-C16A43396887_zps

Then I could fit the idler gear and transfer case

C0A39DC0-CD7C-4A9D-A010-A8B2B91476B5_zps

Then to help close up the holes to keep dust out etc, I dummy fitted the wok and cylinder head.

Which brings us to sep 15! being held up by money as I need parts to finish the engine build, and i found some small holes in the floor that need patching. Doesn't help that the 'reliable' daily blew a headgasket... Hopefully progress soon of welded car, painted car, complete wiring loom, complete engine and then boost!!!

Looks like a strong engine

You might find you'll need to move/remove that tappet cheat oil breather other wise you won't be able to get a air feed on that turbo

And you might want to rethink the oil drain, I had loads of problems with mine leaking and making the car run really smoky, I had to weld a boss onto the gearbox

Thanks, I have since then redesigned the tapped breather to have a AN elbow fitting so should be no issues with fouling on the compressor inlet hose.

As for the oil drain the turbo system was bought from someone with it on a running car, who had no issues with smoking. Though it looks cramped the hose is quite a large bore and it is not crimped at the bend, so hopefully it'll still be ok.
