My Lower Dash Rail Is F****d !

I spent ages carefully trying to take the lower dash rail off in one piece so I can recover it with some nice cream leather I've got, trouble was it's completely bonded to the metal underneath so it was impossible to pull it off in one piece.
It now fair to say the foam former is ripped to bits and is unusable. I can't be the only person who's been in this situation?
Is it possible to just get a new foam bit and cover that with my leather? I've had a little google but found no new parts
Has anyone ever retrimmed your lower dash rail without the foam former bit?
Any suggestion how to get round this would be welcome
Thanks

"Dear british leyland if you wish to save even more money in the manufacture of your beautiful mini don't use so much bloody glue on your lower dash rails"
"You could possibly put the saved money towards developing some drum brakes that actually work"
What do you recon guys? Proberly 40 years late tho

The other option is Optimise Automotive (also a TMF trader) that produce their own padded dash rail covers http://optauto.easys...ash_Rail_Covers, although I think that their products are just covers that fit over your existing padded dash rail, so may not be appropriate for your needs.

The most obvious answer is to get hold of a reasonable used replacement, especially if you're going to re trim it. They come up on Ebay fairly regularly, or you could try one of the specialist classic mini breakers that trade here on TMF such as Minijosh92 http://www.theminifo...228-minijosh92/.

Thanks mate I'll do some PM'ing, I think the other link is just for the covers and not the foam underneath, fits the foam that buggered on mine, I was planning on making my own cover with some cream leather I've got

Mine has cracked in the middle but I have not yet attempted to take it off yet. I am planning on taking it off and sticking new fabric vinyl the the existing dash, is yours too far gone to try this? The vinyl is fairly cheap from eBay.
For £70 for a new one I recon ill try this, but I recon it will show the joins in the foam below
I wish I wasn't so ham fisted some times but 40 year foam is pretty brittle I guess
When you do come to take your rail off try using a hair dryer to soften the glue and make the foam a little less brittle - I wish I'd done this

Just take all the switches ect out so when you put them back in it should look quite neat
Hindsight is a wonderful thing:)
