Does anyone have any idea on a price for fitting a new front screen?
I've got the original screen but had to replace the rubber seal and locking strip.
I've got all the bits, but running out of time for the Llandudno Run on 13th Jan
An independent windscreen company quoted £40 inc VAT.

Does this sound reasonable?

I paid £40 to have both screens fitted by a pro, with me supplying the bits.

People might say its easy, but when the windscreen cost £160, and with a fresh paintjob, I wasnt risking it :)

As its the original 1974 toughened screen too, I believe they're quite easy to crack!

Spend an extra £40 and buy a laminated screen. Toughened ones are just dangerous. Talking from experience here, when the break you may aswell close your eyes because you can't see anything. And if that happens at 60mph, well you can imagine what could happen.

I asked a guy at one of the stands they have at supermarkets offering chip repair. He gave me a number of the lads (he only did chips, but some do everything). Got it done as a foreigner (or homer in some places?) for £15

£40 sounds a bit steep to me as it only takes 10 minutes ans doesn't cost anything in materials. I'd expect to be charged that sort of minimum charge from one of he big companies, but if I was going to a small independent place, then I'd expect to pay half that amount as a quick cash job when they weren't busy. I'd shop around a bit if I were you, but then I hate paying out for stuff If I can get it done cheaper elsewhere.

Totally agree, throw it away, laminated screens were a major safety enhancement.......also serious/fatal injuries if something comes through a toughened screen because there is no plastic 'laminated' layer to stop it.

Throw the toughened one away. If a stone hits a laminated one, it cracks or chips, if a stone hits a toughened one it shatters into thousands of pieces, which you dont really want in your face whilst driving. Plus if you forget to put your seatbelt on and have a crash, youll just bounce off a laminated screen, rather than going through a toughened one

You'd still go through it, it's just more likely to pop out in one piece.

to be honest, places have minimum call-out charges so I don't think £40 is at all bad.... Windscreens are easy to fit, very easy, but if you don't knwo what you're doing there's a risk of it going wrong.
