If your doing all the welding yourself then in theory it only costs you gas and time.
Any Shell can be saved, the reason most have said re-shell is because honestly its not a good financial move.

Anything Heritage get from Minispeed, 12.5% discount. And the shell is not beyond saving. Unless you get a totally rust free shell you will no doubt have to spend something to bring it up to spec.

Better the devil you know
At least you know what exactly needs doing to this shell, and once its been stripped down and its just a case of take one area at a time and working your way through the lot, and if the front end is alright then I say go for it.
As with any second hand purchase there is a reason for someone to sell it, and to be fair its not normally a 'Well I welded the shell up and its perfect, but now I'm going to sell it' it's normally 'there is too much work to be done, and I don't have the time/ skills/ money'

Hey guys if you fancy the challenge of bringing a 79 back to life then you can, end of the month when I can pay for TMF+ so i can put it up for sale its going :'(
I'm not in a good or strong financial position to keep the mini, theres alot of parts that come with it, lots of spares I have amassed a fair few parts since owning it. If you fancy it drop me a PM
THIS IS NOT A FORSALE ADD :) just stating it shall be at the end of the month

Well I priced everything up Mix of M machine, Pattern Panels and sheet metal comes out at £400 in panels, Turns out the guy Ive lived next door to for the last 2 years is a welder and use to race minis back in the 80's :/ so welder is now sorted!
Just gotta write up a plan of attack for getting it done!
Thanks for all the help guys! I shall keep you all uptodate on whats happening and properly ask some stupid body work questions as I'm a Engineer.
Thanks

It's nice to hear you're saving it and not selling, it'd be good to see it in a project thread with a few pictures. I'm intrigued how rusty the shell is!
