To change the 1275 auto to a manual is it simply a gearbox change?

Auto's have a different subframe to manuals, so there will be more work than just a gearbox change.

What you 'll need are :
A manual gear box with it's remote gear stick assembly
A manual gear box front subframe
The manual gearbox driving axles for your car (drum brakes or discs and what size cooper S or 8.4")

I think the engine blocks are different too, different gearbox mounting points. Easiest way is a complete manual engine with gear shifter and 2 auto to manual engine mounts :)

Nope, the automatic engine has a lot of differences to the manual one. Its not a case of just fitting a manual gearbox to the auto engine block.

It is possible but takes quite a bit of engineering,

I thought you could just use the same driveshafts? Provided it matches, say a 998 A+ auto can use the same driveshafts as a 998 A+ manual?

Add to your list new clutch master + slave cylinder and a pedalbox/clutch pedal.

The whole engine + gearbox as one needs to be swapped, unless you

You need to change the whole engine or have access to a machine shop where you can re-engineer the engine block.

You can use the auto subframe with some adapter mountings, however, my preferred technique is to replace the subframe for a manual version, it's a lot neater, and also gives you a chance to overhaul the front suspension while you're there..

You will also need, apart from a manual engine/gearbox/clutch etc

A remote gear change, a clutch pedal and appropriate spring for the pedal box, a clutch master, pipe and slave if one does not come with the engine

I guess it's easier just paying the extra for a manual 1275

quickest/cheapest trick for fitting manual engine in auto front subby is to fit a manifold washer under each of the fixing points between the alloy mounting on the side of the gearbox and the gearbox. This is the same mounting that the radiator bracket / engine mount attaches too. You will need to redrill one of the engine mount holes in the subframe or use the auto mount.

Iv just done the conversion and you need

Gear linkage
Pedal for clutch
Master cylinder
Slave cylinder
Engine and box
And you can get auto to manual conversion mounts

I'll be doing this swap at some point when I can figure out the logistics of a 1-man-front-subby-swap.

Mine is a 998cc auto going to a 1275 manual, do I need new drive shafts?

Not a remote gearbox, but a remote gear change, which is what the gear change for a rod change gearbox is actually called, because it's actually 'remote' to the gearbox...

Lots of conversions cropping up. Wonder if it will make the value of automatics go up? Quite neat little things really.
