Are you intending to drop the whole front subframe ?

you can make them by acro propping a celling joist either side of the car with a scaffolding tube spanning the props then have a chain set up to lift it out. failing that could you not rent one locally for a day.

if you're dropping the subby and engine what i'd do is take the weight of the body by jacking it up and putting a tire or two under the body, undo the subframe bolts and jack the body up or lift it using brute force and ignorance and roll it away on its back wheels

You'll find out that the front end is not very heavy and the subframe will not fall apart once you jack up the front..

undo the tower bolts get four of you and lift the shell of the sub frame and engine and roll it back i took the head off and head studs out to make it that little bit easier, shove something under the subby to stop the sub frame slumping forward i used a car ramp

Loving the H&S sandals in Lucas's photo

I find it easier to lift the engine, leaving the shell with 4 wheels & steering but, of course, you may want the subframe out of the way too. Lifting with a trolley jack is easiest, even if you add a rope to take in the slack as you lift, for safety.

It doesn't take 4 to lift a Mini body off the subby - my daughter and I did it easily for her car. But you MUST remove the rad - or it will be damaged. Take the wheels off the front subby and sit the sump as low as possible on a block of timber. Don't forget to remove the front dampers.... If all you want is the engine - then just lift out the engine ! It's not a difficult single person lift provided the head and alternator have been removed.

There is a risk of back injury lifting the engine out of the engine bay alone, you can't keep the weight close enough to your body and its quite heavy!

I've lifted engines out of my car boot, (non-mini) but that's at a much better height

i agree with carlos if i remeber right a mini engine is around 150kg your be silly to lift that out of a car with two or more people much easier to lift the body off the car ;D

Hi,

a pair of step ladders one side, workmate bench the other

Posted Image

slide a plank under the mini and lift either side when everything is disconnected, subframe bolts, dizzy off, heater pipes, etc.

Posted Image

lift mini up between a couple of you and ballance mini on the ladders and work bench, pull engine out.

Ta da !!
