Dont try and lift the engine out on your own - in my honest opinion it is a silly thing to suggest.

As the post above, if you only have one person and want to take the body off the suby its a case of a little at a time.

Raise it a bit. Put some wood under it. Raise it some more. etc. It is quite easy.

Dont forget to put some wood under the subby/gearbox before you start as it will tip.

Also, once the weight is off the suby the wheels tend to start going in opposite directions so it may be more akward to move than you think - make sure you have a bit of working space around you.

It is much, much easier with two people though !!!

i must say its a hell of alot easier to remove the engine separate to the sub frame. i have only once tried the all in one go job and simply never again. i have also lifted one out by myself like bmc says its not that bad, remove starter, alternator, rad, head etc to make it lighter i even removed the wok and flywheel. then trolley jack under the sump and jack it up as high as you can, my jack lifts up to 60cm so when its that high its not much to lift the engine onto the slam panel. then have a couple of blocks stacked up to just above bumper height and lift the engine from slam panel on blocks, job done.

or cut the slam panel out so you dont have to lift it so high, then just make a couple of brackets and bolt the slam panel back in

i think people that suggest lifting the engine on your own do need to be careful beacause every1 is a differant size and something easy for 1 person might seriously injure another, it can also do damage to your bak that might not become aparent for a long time so i would honestly steer clear of a single person engine lift unless you are fully confident that you have plently of liftin ability, if you have any doubt in your mind dont atempt it as you will end up injuring yourself
