Does anyone know if you are allowed to put the air intake in the cab/passenger compartment, because I wish to have the ram pipe poking through the bulkhead. It seems stupid but it makes sense, the air in cab is clean and there will be no turbulence because it is a big open area, not like in an engine bay where the engine and wires etc. are creating a lot of turbulence

until the carb backfires and sets your interior on fire, thats the most dangerous and silly thing i've ever heard!!...... :ohno:

yes, but its an interesting engineering challenge and have often does the engine backfire when its in a normal state of tune. i would like to note thats its a homemade ram pipe and and inlet manifold, all made from the legs of an old computer desk

Keep an eye on your passengers just incase they think the ram pipe poking through the dash is an ashtray or a cupholder...........

well theres only one passenger because the battery replaces the backseat, im 15 and learning to be a mechanic and its more about the engineering challenge

think about it, the air thats in side the cabin is just statick, when having in the engine bay at least you have constant supply of air being fed into the engine bay and your carb.

it silly, and all youll end up doing is setting fire to something

It has never backfired to my knowledge and there is nothing to set fire to

I'm not sure on whether it is legal or not. It could cause controversy at an MOT, my initial guess would be yes providing its safe. However my question is why would you want to. Not only is the air inside the cabin warm so less dense, but you are also breathing inside the cabin so less oxygen is available for the engine to combust. The reason people run ram air setups from the engine bay is because air is physically forced down the pipe into the carb. If you run a setup from in the cabin, you are just relying on the engines breathing capability to draw air from in the cabin, which in effect you achieve with a standard air filter setup. You also mentioned turbulance. In effect you do want some turbulance and swirl effect in order to aid atomisation of the fuel as it enters the inlet and cylinders. No offence but I cannot see your setup giving any advantage over a standard air filter setup.

Also guys, I don't know what backfires you have seen, but last time I checked the flame out the top of the carb on a back fire coulden't possibly travel down a long tube and set fire to your interior haha!

thank you very much, the idea was to get rid of the airfilter, and put it in the cab because the air is clean, theres no dirt being flown around the cab

This has made my Sunday...the clue why not to have a "Ram air pipe" in your cab is in the RAM part.... air is not forced into the cab, hence the pipe normally being upfront so as you drive air is ahem being forced into it, >_<
If it was a better setup to have it in the cab, all the major motor companies would have done it years ago (excluding any easton europian companies) ;D

Try it see what happens and let us know how you get on..nothing wrong with trying new things and learning stuff, as your only 15 its fun when things go wrong or right.. :shades:
