I am hoping to be doing an engine rebuild soon and hopefully making it a fast road 1380cc one! I have been doing some research into it and was hoping to ask if any of you could give me some specifications and advice on stuff you have done to your engine such as what parts you used to achieve so I have more knowledge and can make a wise choice on what parts to use! Many thanks :)

If your the kinda person who wants some footage to go along with it for reference then theres a few you tube vids but me personally I'd just get this DVD instead, probably will have some flaws but compared with you tube...

1330 cc is better than 1380 because you don't have to offset bore and when the engine needs re-boring again it can be easily and cheaply sleeved back to 1275.
Much more cost-effective all round and you won't notice any difference in driving so long as the engine build is done thoroughly, carefully and well.

A 1380 will cost you more to rebore and if something goes wrong the block is likely to be scrap or subjected to un-economical repair..
Much safer to go 1310 or even 1330

I'm building an Innocenti Cooper 1300 engine for a friend at the moment. It was at +0.060", i.e. 1330 cc and the bores were badly worn. Re-sleeving including buying the sleeves, boring, pressing in the sleeves, honing the sleeves for the 1275 cc pistons and skimming the block to bring the new pistons flush with the deck cost just over £300 which I think is very reasonable. Now, had that been an offset-bored 1380 needing a re-bore it could be so expensive as to scrap the block - and they'll never make any more blocks.

1380 just seems the 'peak point' people aim for

Me personally I'd rather have a 1293, 1310 at most

Thanks for your replies! Must appreciated! :)

So doing a 1330 bore or something around that wont be much different to a 1380 in performance if everything else is the same?

1380 will be slightly better, but unless you need that little bit extra to win in the track it's pointless. You can make a 1330 go as fast as you could ever drive it! :D

That is absolutely right.
It's the two 'comics' that go on about 1380 engines. I wonder what they will do when the price of blocks is so high that people can't afford them and the 1380 needs re-building.
1275 blocks are already selling for twice what they were a few years ago.
1380 is fine if you want to knock a couple of tenths of a second off a lap time, but for a road car there is no point.
