After reading about which distributor should be fitted to my Mini Thirty 1989 998cc, it appears I should have the Lucas 59D4 with blue points.

However, I have this distributor below, so does that mean I have the 45D4 distributor with red points?

Thanks

With the little plastic fork on the bottom of the points I believe this to be a Lucas 59D4 distributor. I don't know if any of the later distributors also used that style of points so you may want to wait for others to post to this thread before buying any replacement parts. In the meantime you may want to wash down the outside of the distributor to see if you can find the model stamped on the casting. If you don't find the model number stamped in the housing you should at least find a 5-digit number (probably beginning with "4") that you can look up to confirm the distributor model.

I'd go with Doug, the sliding points shown by the plastic fork are fitted to the 59d4 the 45D is pretty much identical appart from that plastic fork

The points you have fitted are the 'sliding' type, as fitted to the 59D. All of the Lucas sets of 59D points I have seen use blue plastic for the heel, this may be an aftermarket set from another supplier.

Yes just dodgy aftermarket parts with red plastic instead of blue! Not that genuine Lucas parts aren't quite dodgy themselves of course.

Thanks for your help everyone, the car has now had new blue points fitted, along with a new condenser, rotor arm, and dizzy cap.

After setting the timing up, the car runs again :D

no thats actually someone else picture.. but looks the same as mine.. its a 59D4 as stated on the body but cant fit a blue contact point with forks.. the base is similar to the 45D..
