for the love of god don't do thisUnscrew the oil filter, remove the HT leads and turn it over whilst it pumps out how much you want to remove.

how much over? if its a like a few mm ir be fine :) but most of it properly leak out anyways
it was a good half inch to an inch over, don't know how i managed it to be honest, just got a bit carried away.
I think i'm just gonna stick a tub underneath and drain a bit at a time until i get to right.

Yes, never start an engine with a new filter unless the filter has been primed before fitting.
To drain some oil out you remove the sump plug. That's what the sump plug is for and it's hard to see why anyone would want to do it any other way. Simples.

out of the dip stick hole is fine
it's the only way to get the oil out a lot of boat engines
and my smart roadster!!!!
