From memory on some non kad quick shifts require the removal of the 2 pressed in location pins in the std lower gearchange these are the 2 where you twist the upper cup against the spring pressure so the standard stick will come out and up, from reports here these can be difficult to remove. Once removed the quickshift alloy housing and stick assy is fitted down over the std lower housing and their are 2 bolts which screw into the holes the pins come out of to retain it, whats does your instructions say ? are they along the lines of what I've written?

I have one on mine (non kad) and I hate it if you were close to me I'd swap and fit it for you, mine is very close movement the wife cant get on with it

Oh ok that's a shame I thought it was something along those lines it didn't come with instructions which really helps lol
Those two pins look quite hard to get out 1 goes through and you can see it inside where the lever ball sits and one don't did you punch them out or mole grips would it be better and easier to drop the linkage box as I have no engine in it at the moment anyway cheers again

Yeah just drod the housing down and use a punch. Took me about 10 seconds to tap them out. I'm not sure what make mine is because I bought it years ago, but I had to cut a couple of coils off the spring. I cut too much off though and the gear knob would spin right around when changing gear. So cut off small bits at a time if that's what you need to do...

As they say, you can cut a bit off, but you can't cut a bit on...

Mine's Kad and it required the pins to be removed as well.

I first used a pair of big jaw pliers to push in the two pins so they are set in flush towards the center of the housing. I then stuck a lot of paper towels into the housing.

With the pins sitting flush, I was able to put the quickshift housing on. Then I screwed the screws in through the quickshift housing to where the stuck pins are. It pushed the pins in and they landed on the paper towels inside and can be collected.

I fitted a Mini Sport quick-shift as well. And installation is very easy, like mentioned above.

This is my first Mini, and I've never driven one with the stock shifter, so I can't comment on the difference. But so far (only a couple of test drives) I've found reverse very difficult to engage. I'm not sure this is related to the quick-shift, but I seem to recall that reverse was a lot easier with the stock shifter (which was worn out and sloppy).

And I bought the quick-shift because it was cheaper than the stock shifter...

personally i love my long throw gear shift, makes life easy... all you have to do is choose the correct corner and chuck it up there... but i was told this job can sometimes be fiddly (by the minisport guy selling the paddy hopkirk ones at beaulieu) anyway, i know i didnt help but good luck! i know that simon on here (Dog.) has a kad one and he isnt a fan either.

One thing you'll miss is "accidentally" stroking the passengers leg when going into 1st (3rd for me, LHD).

Use a small punch and tap the pins out with a hammer. I can't remember if you tap them inwards or out though...

If you use a small punch it will go through the hole and push the pin out.
