To be fair to Royal mail, I bough something from a bloke on Ebay 2 weeks ago, he marked it as dispatched and it hasn't arrived, I've messaged him twice with no response!

Has he sent it?

Who knows!!!!

For those of you who use these services as part of your business, write some official letters of complaint. A complaint for here and there is one thing, but if they start getting a lot of letters maybe they will look into.

I haven't lost anything in the UK recently, but out here I posted a USB and some magazines to a mate of mine and it still hasn't turned up. I sent some more stuff to the same location after and they have all turned up, even stuff to one of the more remore locations has turned up.

How do you know they are missing? Have you been able to track the item?

We're only selling cheap items so paying £2.70 is about as much as people will pay. We don't really have much choice but to believe people that say the item hasn't arrived as all we've got is proof of postage.

In pretty much every case where we have had someone complain that an item has not turned up, we've looked back through the receipts, found the one with their postcode on it and it's been sent from the same Post Office as all of the other ones that have gone missing. It's only been a recent thing.

We've now stopped using that Post Office and we've not had another single complaint of an item not arriving.

It doesn't take Miss Marple to work out that there's a problem with that Post Office.

I used to usually just send parcels out normal 1st class, and signed for if more valuable. I sold a load of stuff on ebay a while ago now, all sent 1st class and received fine, apart from one so he opened a case etc. A few weeks later the cheeky lying ******* had my exact item for sale and even used my description! Now everything I send is signed or special next day if more valuable.

Ive had a fair bit of trouble with Royal mail recently,

I would say that over the last 3 years Ive had a loss rate of 1 in 250
But in the last 6 months Ive had 8 lost items, all Royal mail (either standard parcels service, or 2nd class)

Mainly due to the cheap items I'm flogging on Ebay people do no want to pay silly amounts for postage unless the item is of value which is understandable
As a seller is a nightmare I've received bad feedback due to lost items even though I have refunded them

Word of advise is try to Get buyers to buy the better postage and insurance as without a tracking number paypal will refund the item automatically from your account if a dispute is opened,

I send stuff quite regularly overseas and had a spate of missing packages at the end of Decemer and begining of January. They eventually turned up after about 4 weeks. I haven't had anything go missing in the UK for a long while. I find that some people don't realise that the postman has attempted to deliver and always advise the buyer to check with their local sorting office. I had a bloke in Italy who had messaged me about non-delivery only to find his local office had had the item for 2 weeks.
I've even had a few lost items make there way back home after about 3 months.

What's the worst country for lost items, for me it's France, so now I only send by Signed for Delivery to there.

PS I did have a guy send me a cheque by recorded that went missing. It was on the Royal Mail tracking as "Being Processed for Delivery" for weeks. So it's not just non-recorded that goes missing.

France for me too and guess where I'm sending a £70 package to tomorrow. I'm always relieved once it's arrived for anything I send there. It'll be going International Signed for so at least I can track it.

Interesting to read that others are having similar problems since late 2012... seems like something is going wrong of late.

Shot yourself in the foot there, you should have gone special delivery.

max value/compensation for recorded/signed for is £46
They will send you a set of 1st class stamps as compo if you cannot prove the value etc. I got a set once after claiming and sending the ebay page and paypal transactions. I wrote back to them and they sent me a cheque for the full amount (it was under £46) and said I could keep the stamps.
