hi guys got rear ended and had to go through insurance as guy could not afford repair so know my poor little mini is cat C :mmkay:. Im happy with the pay out i got and i can get it repaired for a similar value to what they gave me.

but is is really worth it ?? i mean do Cat C minis hold any value what so ever ?? would it be worthless and a pain in the as the get rid of in the future? or should i just buy a nail of a mini and break my mini for the bits to use? be great to hear peoples thoughts and off other members with Cat C minis. Many thanks

Any cat C car is worth less than a none accident damaged car, there are people out there willing to repair cat C cars, i don't think there any harder to get rid of though, i managed sell my cat C 206 with no problems, you just need keep the photos & bills to prove that it's been repaired properly and to a high standard. it also depends how much you like your mini, would you be willing to completely brake it just because its cat C? i've still got the VIC certificate to say that the pug was perfectly rod worthy after being repaired. It can be a pain but if you want your mini how it was then it's well worth it :D

its my understanding that a VIC check is to ensure its the same vehicle, not that the repairs are to a good standard.

With modern cars its a bit different a Cat C wouldnt put me off buying one of them. But got to be honest I do keep an eye on the investment side of things and I wouldnt buy a mini with a Cat C against it because it does effect their future value, and if I'm going to sink some money into a classic mini I like to pretend think its money well spent

Thats not to say a Cat C is worthless it just wont be worth as much

Fix it and keep it. If you do anything to a car your going to lose money when it comes to reselling it.

You might as well rebuild it into your dream mini now. Modifications lose money, the Cat C will lose money..just bite the bullet and make something you will want to keep, be it a track racer or a luxury conversion.

My latest mini is a CAT C. Didn't know that when I bought it as I didn't get a HPi check but I suspected something as it was pretty cheap. I've got the receipts from when it was repaired by a specialist and it had a new front end on it but it's a 20 year old mini so no big deal that it's had a new front end. I have no intention of selling it so have nothing to worry about.

what does it matter, when minis are full of rott and are basicly reshelled noone cares, why do people always worry about resell value and not keeping the car alive, a mini cat C and a shitty new car cat c are totally different

I think your in a tough situation. On one hand- morally yes I think you should stick by your cars side and repair it, there will be sentimental value too.
On the other hand- inevitably yes, a cat c mini will not be worth one with similar spec without the cat c. It tends to scare alot of buyers, they see those words and don't care about anything else. My first mini was a cat c, it was "fully repaired and resprayed", after driving it for a few minutes it was clear something was still wrong (ended up being a bent rear subby that I had to replace). So personally I would be very weary as a buyer looking at a cat c.
To be honest morally I'd restore yours to former glory, but financially I'd sell urs for parts and make a cracking mini with the payout. Really depends on how much the car means to you... Your money after all!

Appreciate all your comments  yeah suppose as its know a Cat C it dose give me a bit more scope to go mad with it as quiet rightly in not going to get my money back any way. so will probably repair it and go for more of a Fast road toy instead off a full daily Use car. and i would really hate to see it go as its a good runner at the end off the day even though it is annoying :teehee: . cheers

Sell your Cat C Minis to the Americans station in the UK! After they become registered in our system, the Cat C designation disappears...
