most of you who know me will know i have an MPI, and i am not a mechanic, so i know nothing of carbs and their ancillaries... However i spied out a seriously crusty ( fist sizeed holes everywhere) mk1 yesterday, with the corners of the bonnet bent up, seeing the the catches had long since gone ( the bonnet split in two...) i pull it up to see what was under there... i managed to spy a twin carb set up, pretty coked up and white, with two cirular (pancake??) air filters sat on top... now thats ALL i saw.... but it struck me as odd it'd be in a mk1 (push start button on the floor and everything) if i go back what else coudl i lookf or to identify what there are... and are they worth anything, considering they are in quite a bad shape...

the floor button could be a starter or a horn, or like on my mk1 mgb a headlight switch

but yes any twin carb set up is worth something :)

The 997 got pancakes as standard fitment
Being 50 yrs old i cant imagine how many hands were put in there so make reference to the engine and chassis mumbers.

well it could be the right parts to finish off someones drweam mini :-)

I was just enquiring as the more bits that are Cooper & S based the higher the possibility that it might be a Cooper or S

Possible that someone would have the whole car for a resto if it is an early cooper

It has always been a popular modification to fit twin carbs - as such, it is not a useful measure of a cars ID.

As it has a starter button it is highly unlikely to be a Cooper/Cooper S as these used a key start.

Lets not forget that for the early (early, early) car crowd, even small bits like that section of floor with the pushbutton starter are worth something. No matter how rough the car is there are still likely to be bits on there that are pearls to someone.
