I think other's on here have said that it's worth getting a new/second hand one, as if it's cracked there before it's likely to crack again if you're in those circumstances again.

I was under the impression that it would fail an mot/illegal if the subframe was welded but I stand corrected if i am wrong.

The MOT man welded mine up

EDIT - i wouldnt normally want to drive one with a welded subby but at the time i did use that one for a bit. i didnt have the time to swap them over and it never re-cracked and didnt brake if i jacked it up so if its done right it MIGHT be ok. not gunna say its a good idea though

(I broke really hard and just avoided a 4 car pile up ahead of me and it cracked the subframe)
Ignoring everything else, if braking really hard cracked the subframe then you really, really need to replace it.
The car should be robust to the full power of the engine or brakes - if the subframe cracked just under braking then you've something really scary going on!
Please don't drive the car until you've identified, and fixed the root cause!

It doesn't sound like the sort of thing that i'd be happy welding up on my car. Really the best option would be a new(2nd hand) frame.
I'm asuming its the front subby we're talking about here?

If its your front subby there's one for sale on here for £30.
Yep it's the front, where would I find that ad? thanks
