Can anyone help me or know of a cheap garage that can weld the front of my subframe as it is cracked (I broke really hard and just avoided a 4 car pile up ahead of me and it cracked the subframe) Has a load clunking noise like its hitting together when I drive, sounds really dangerous.

Based near Ealing (Perivale).

Thank you!! :)

Have you got any pictures of the crack?
I think other's on here have said that it's worth getting a new/second hand one, as if it's cracked there before it's likely to crack again if you're in those circumstances again.

I was under the impression that it would fail an mot/illegal if the subframe was welded but I stand corrected if i am wrong.

It's one of those 50/50 subjects, some people say you can weld them and some say you can't, but you would probably be better off with a new one or refurb a second hand one. (purely for safety)

The MOT man welded mine up :o before i bought the car i told the guy i wanted a MOT on it because he said it would easily pass one (not falling for that trick). it failed on the subby and the MOT guy welded it so i presume its not a MOT fail but dont hold me to it. i told the guy i didnt want a welded subby, he knocked more off and i got a 'new' one lol

EDIT - i wouldnt normally want to drive one with a welded subby but at the time i did use that one for a bit. i didnt have the time to swap them over and it never re-cracked and didnt brake if i jacked it up so if its done right it MIGHT be ok. not gunna say its a good idea though

If welding done correctly why would it fail an MOT...

chassis of a Landrover is basically a great big subframe :) no problems welding those for an MOT

if done correctly it ISNT a fail, so id say to weld it as a temporary solution. I advise you to buy a 2nd hand one and refurb/ fit that very soon.

Ignoring everything else, if braking really hard cracked the subframe then you really, really need to replace it.
The car should be robust to the full power of the engine or brakes - if the subframe cracked just under braking then you've something really scary going on!

Please don't drive the car until you've identified, and fixed the root cause!

It doesn't sound like the sort of thing that i'd be happy welding up on my car. Really the best option would be a new(2nd hand) frame.
