i conected the black wire from the dizzy straight to the (-) and then the resistive wire to the (+) and the black and white wire to the (-) aswell that is all that was

OK, REALLY back up. Resistive wire? If you have a "pinkish" wire connected to coil (+) and are trying to use an electronic ignition you have a mismatch of parts and this is simply not going to work.

If you have an OEM electronic ignition you need the OEM electronic ignition type coil. You do not use a sports coil with the factory electronic ignition. If this is an aftermarket electronic ignition, they can generally be used with aftermarket sports coils. Again, pictures and part numbers of what you have will help.

No electronic ignition module (regardless of coil) gets powered through/by the resistive wire. The resistive wire should only be used on "ballast type" ignition coils used on cars with points ignition systems. The problem is the resistive wire drops the operating voltage of the coil. When you connect the ignition module to the coil in this situation, the ignition module also runs at a reduced voltage and is likely to NOT work properly.

Don't give up yet. Tell us more about the two distributors you have and post part numbers and some pictures if you can. You can put something together out of what you have to get a running car... particularly if one of those distributors has points.

ok so i have a powersparks lucas gold sports ignition coil. and a 45d electronic distributor. it was previously running with the same sports coil and a standard a+ distributor but the engine was switched for an a series which was the engine the distributor i got fitted to so i fitted the electronic dizzy.

when i fitted electronic coil i had serious loss of power and backfiring and extremely high revs in low gears. and then the module popped after putting the dizzy in and driving it home (100miles). i was then told the resistive wire was incorrect so i ran a straight wire from the fuse box the same side as the resistive wire (so none fused) straight to the coil. An she started but then as soon as i connected the rev cable it popped the module again.

i reconnected an old a series dizzy i had lying about which was a standard one which was a points and condenser versions and tried this on the resistive wire and the straight run to the fuse box. both did not work (may be the dizzy is faulty though)

i wired it up as i was told to by simon from powerspark so i know that is not wrong. the problem is there is something shorting out the module as soon as i connect the rev counter and it must be a bad thing because its not just cutting out the ignition. its just killing it completely,

can i put a fuse line in between the power cable from the coil to the dizzy and then that way it will break the circuit before it breaks the module, that way i can diagnose it abit cheaper. if so what size amp would i use?

cheers for all your help. se.

you mention powerspark so I'm presuming you have the module with one red one black wire

Mines similar except my module is by Aldon ..I'm also running lucas gold so I'll say how mines wired, see if it matches

coil....wire from fuse box connected to the white wires going into fuse box....connects to positive on the coil

dizzy...red wire connect to positive terminal on coil , black wire connect to negative terminal on coil.

white/black for rev counter connect to negative on coil..

Now if that causes problems suggests problem with wiring from rev counter

old ballast white/pink I taped up not used...actually I've stripped it right out now because I'm rebuilding so changing wiring while im at it

That is exactly how it was wired. I really do hope I some how got unlucky and got 2 faulty modules or something. I'll fuse the line between the coil and dizzy and then see if the fuse pops (hopefully before the module.

Anyone know the ampage fuse I would need though?

You wouldn't be the first to end up with 2 faulty new modules...

Seems very odd though he mentions work fine until he connects the rev counter feed !!!

I think I'd leave that off and see how well it runs / last
