I'm a bit weird, if a mini came with 12" wheels then it should stay with 12" wheels, the same applies to 10" wheels.

The same applies to engines, chucking a 1275 in place of a 998 is cheating, this is how I spent £1000 making my 998 the same power as a 1275.

There is a reason for the snobbery - a standard 1275 will walk over a tuned 998 even if you throw good money at it

i would disagree with that.. i love well tuned 998s. small block power! and they keep up with the bigger boys rather well... especially the standard 1275s. heck they give a few euro boxes a jump at the lights too... in short... i got ruined by one in my cooper on the way back from beaulie ulast year :)

Ignore them. A Suzuki GSR1100 will walk all over a Ducati 750SS in a straight line, but having the ultimate in power is not what's important to everyone. The sweetest bike I ever had was a Yamaha TT250, superb fun everywhere I went. The CBR600R I had was a rocketship but that's not what I want in a bike. A standard Suzuki Swift will walk all over a 1275 with a stage one kit, it's a game no-one wins. Enjoy your mini.

<edit> Just dropped a 1275 metro lump into the Estate yesterday, ooops...

Thats not an achievement on the behalf of the 998, considering they came with what 40bhp and a MPI came with 62 as standard. Add 12 years to your car and your down to lets say, 55bhp at best. Assuming there was even 62 at the start.

A slightly tuned 998 is nocking on the door of 50-60bhp. Can you see where this is going?

998 A-series is a much smoother reving, shorter stroke, long lived engine. The 1275 A-series may have more power but the longer stroke engine is far rougher, more likely to show signs of wear and tear at a lower mileage and start burning oil, etc.

I had a 998 pocketed block with a 1275 head and Hif38 carb and a 266 cam and my mates 1.2 twinport corsa couldn't catch it until I got to around 80. I loved my tuned 998. Ended up killing the gear box and got myself a stage 3 1293.
