Hi all,

I need to weld a small patch (well it looks small, probably will get larger once all the rot is cut away!) in the roof section of my mini..the problem is that I wish to avoid removing the windscreen and the headlining...the hole is very close to the seam, so there is the edge where the roof lining mounts before the actual roof lining..

my question is, if I try to weld the hole with the roof lining in place, will the roof lining catch fire immediately if some tiny welding spark are dropped on it?

thanks and appreciate all advice!

You could pull off the door seal on that side then gently peel back the roof lining to get a damp rag in the general area you are going to weld.

Not ideal by any means and you need to make sure you get it in the right spot.

It really does not take long to whip the windscreen out and that would be the ideal way to approach this. Not only that you will not get any welding / grinding splatter on the screen either.

not a bad idea...the problem is that the hole is in the middle, just on top of the rear view mirror!!! So it wouldn't be so easy to get a damp rag in there!!

The problem is not to get the windscreen out, but to put it back in!
