HI

I have been offered what I believe to be a Mk2 Super Deluxe Morris Mini, 1968, with log book.
It is in sorry state, I haven't looked at it yet, but have been told the floor has given way.

Other than the odd broken tail light it is complete, original and unmolested.

I have searched through this forum and the internet, but can't find many examples or information on this model. I know it was only produced for 3 years so I presume it is quite rare?

Can anyone advise me what I should be aiming to pay for an unmolested Mk2? needing at minimum new floor, sub frames and interior
Also what is one of these worth when restored to a working respectable standard? not a rivet counters standard

I am only young, have a fair amount of experience with my other toys, a series 2 landrover and Ferguson TED20 tractor

Being young, a z car or similar does appeal to me especially as this will be completely striped anyway. But just wandering how rare these are as per original these days and would it be criminal to modify it?

Any information, or opinions would be great

Many Thanks Tim

Get it, restore it, keep it standard.

Yes they are as rae if not rarer than a mk1 due to production dates.

Im also young & also weirdly have a mk2 68 mini currently being restored.

Thanks for the replies will probably keep it standard as i suspect i would loss the tax exempt privilege if i do an engine conversion.

How young is young on this forum? 18?

Does their rarity cause problems? regarding parts and advice?

Hopefully i have attached a picture I was sent of the mini around a year ago, it has stayed here since

well being a student with a money grabbing land rover, as little as possible, as the less i pay the more i will have to spend on parts and a mig welder

If i do buy it i will post some detailed pictures, and you can all guess what i paid - see if i got a bargain or not

The one is blue and the other is red? And possibly the price?

As other (probably old :) members have said, keep it original! Mk2s are rarer to see on the road than mk1s these days. Put a bigger A-series in if you must, but keep everything you remove safe so you can revert later. I did that with my mk1 and am glad I kept the original 850.

Go for it!

Hello Chap,

Go for it!

I bought my MKII Cooper back in July and love it, really am over the moon with it and I would certainly advise against getting one.

The case with mine was more of, I saw it and had to own it and didn't think bout it that much. From what I have read the MKII was only made from 1967-1970, the MKI was in production for 7 years. I do think that the MKII will become much more desierable in years to come if they already aren't at the current moment in time.

I personally would go for it price dependednt, because if at the end of the day you call it quits and need to sell it on there is a market for them.

Regards parts they are not that hard to come across, there are some parts which are hard to get hold of but none of it is to difficult. Look hard enough and you will find what you are after.

As to what you choose to do with it depends on what your intentions are with the car to be honest, if you are looking at the car as a long term investment, something you intend to sell on in many years to come I would personally go with an original resoration. If it is something you want to keep, drive, enjoy and have no great concern with resale value then build it how ever you like! Mine is far from original, but it makes me smile ear from ear every time i drive it!

Age is never an issue, I started here when I was 15 IIRC, now 21. Age isn't that important, if someone needs help people are happy to assist in what ever way they can.
