Sorry to revive an old thread but found this on search and I have an alternative method that might be useful!
I bonded hinges to the underside on top of the inner wings, welded tabs to the A panels to stop the wings flapping, and added some strong sprung clips on the front of the subframe.

yeah i will have a steal front too.
I also like the idea of using the internal bonnet releases with the release lever in the cab.
Trying to think how to run both cables into one handle though.

That's easy get a bolt drill a hole throught it near the head put the twin cable through one side of the hole single the other and tighten a nut up on it simple but I works

Push bikes are a good source of cable hardware. Van rear doors for compact latches. It's a doddle to bond stuff to the inside of GRP mouldings, I'm surprised more people don't add their own brackets & bracing.
