Cheers for the replies chaps! Learnt a lot from the above. The car seemed fine last night and this morning, reading the following:-

Cold running at 30mph - 60/70psi
Cold idling in traffic/lights etc - 60/65psi

Warm running at 30mph - 60psi
Warm running at 40/45ish-mph - 40psi
Warm idling in traffic/lights etc - between 30/40psi

I'm not sure, but that seems about right to me, so maybe it was just a one off incident.

Thanks for the advice guys, I will take it all in.

Figures could be higher, but for what I assume is an aging engine, it sounds alright.
If you change the oil and filter, make sure to prime the new filter before fitting!

As 'Golfclubby' says, that all sounds fine. Maybe you got a bit of muck in the carb which slowed the tickover with a resultant low oil press reading as a result, quite simply, of the oil pump going round more slowly.
It would be a good idea to change the oil and put a top quality 20w50 in together with a new oil filter.
Re-set the tickover, if necessary, to about 800 to 900 rpm with engine warm.
