Sucking so much air through carb, so quickly it gets cold and icey.

Doesn't the carb foul on the bonnet?

When I had my vmax carb setup it used to ice up on the long inlet due to fuel evaporation, but only really internally ice up when going constant 60 to 70 on an A road. I fitted a tiny heater in the air filter and one around the outside of the dash pot like a big circlip, worked fine and got very hot!

From what i have seen people put the carb next to where the brake servo is, basically inline with the charger inlet
