I got the Minispares under bonnet/bulkhead kit...quite heavy and the bulkhead piece is quite time consuming to fit.
Works well though.Posted ImagePosted Image

Will that stuff on the bulk head just soak up the water and cause it to rust?? I would use closed cell foam and some deadening on the inner side of the bulkhead.

To the OP: If you want to the best job you would want to use prlly 30-50% coverage of decent sound deadening (silent coat, dynamat etc...) then closed cell foam then mass loaded vinyl to properly block out noise.

The main places you want the sound insulation (ccf and mlv) is on the bulkhead and the bonnet. after that its just the rest to help a little more.

Thanks guys. I think ill get some silent coat butyl stuff then some closed cell foam off ebay to go on top. Does that bonnet make a big difference inside the cabin or is it more for exterior noise?

The other thing to consider is that a lot of your engine noise is coming through the windscreen so bonnet dampening is going to help too.

:)
Stop noise out the bonnet and it can't get in the windscreen.

Does Pe foam also work? It's basically closed cell foam with aluminum backing. I think more for heat insulation. But it also says great for noise reduction.

On my to do list I am looking at redoing almost all of the interior...so, would painting the interior with the rubberized undercoating help enough?

Yes this can work really well.

thought about this for my MPI, but actually figured that a Mini is never going to be a quiet car, and efforts to make it like a Rolls-Royce are futile and expensive; the budget alternative is...

The biggest thing that quieted engine noise was covering the big hole on bulkhead center near the filter.

PE foam did help a very tiny bit. I can actually somewhat hear my noisy exhaust now (based on how it sets off car alarms lol). This was 15mm foam. Gona try covering the bulkhead (engine side) with some heavy tar/asphalt type deadener.
