65DM4 has a external module on the outside and would be a O.E distributor for electronic ignition

Sorry to sound like a plank! But what does O.E stand for? Or what does it mean? :s sorry

In the bushes? Sorry where are they? Looking at exploded diagram and cant see them? There is a very small amount of movement at the bottom of shaft where the thrustwasher is, but not sure how I can stop that, to be honest??

It is supposed to pass some oil to lube the dizzy spindle. As above, if you're getting too much you either have too much crankcase pressure or the bush is worn or a bit of both. Sideways movement of the shaft would be an indicator of wear.

There is actually a small amount of movement on the shaft on the bottom bush, where can i get a replacement bush from?

Seems there is no where that does parts, only the whole unit, thanks

Don't mean to but in but I have the same engine and the same problem, oil travels up the hole before the O ring and spills out the casing.I have asked a few people and was told its down to a crankcase pressure problem or a worn engine possible rings etc also to do a leak down test.but as a quick fix NOTa cure is to plug the hole before the O ring with some sealant.

If you plug the hole in the Distributor with sealant the excess oil will build up inside the distributor and get thrown about by the advance weights and come up through the baseplate causing problems with the points or the hall effect electronics and getting inside the cap and cause misfiring and bad running or even cut out.

The fix is either see if you have wear in the distributor shaft bearings or excess crankcase pressure and I would be running the crankcase breather connnected to the inlet which would cause a vacuum in the crankcase. Obviously if your engine is worn then a overhaul would be in order to rectify the problem.

A quick check on excess crankcase pressure is simply to remove the oil filler cap with the engine running and put your hand over the hole to form a seal. There will be some pulsation, but you should feel a slight suction. That will apply to most cars, not just Minis. If there is pressure instead of suction, clean out all the breathers thoroughly before suspecting a worn engine, if it is running ok and not burning lots of oil.

Always do the cheap things first, before trying the expensive. Cleaning the breathers and maybe renewing some of the hoses, if they are dodgy, is cheap and fairly quick compared to an engine rebuild.
