Have you seen how many blocks and cylinder heads MED have got?  Hundreds, if not, thousands of them!

if enough people pay these silly prices, then everyone will sell their engine for silly prices.

so at the end of the day if you pay silly money you are creating the problem yourself

Its the same vicious cycle that caused car prices to go up. People advertise silly prices, so when other people go to advertise their stuff they see the going rate for items and price accordingly (which is higher than normal due to the inflated prices). Then the people buying stuff see this as the going rate and before you know it prices have shot up. Its only when someone comes along and prices realistically and their stuff sells instantly that people stop to think about the prices

Its the way of the world, supply and demand!

That's why MED are stockpiling all those blocks and heads as they know for sure they will be worth a lot more in the future.

Obviously all classic car parts will increase in value as they become less available. Try buying a block for a 1500 Cortina GT or for a Sunbeam Rapier. That is what classic car ownership is all about.
If we stopped offset boring to 1380 it would stop the destruction of many 1275 blocks just to gain about 4 bhp. We need to learn this and act to preserve our classic cars.

Most companies like MED also have a percentage of head castings in any batch that end up as scrap metal when crack tested, etc.

So its outfits like med that are both making them rare and pushing up prices, no?

Might have to go find my genuine rover nos 998 unleaded heads got two of them. 3 1275 heads and two carb cooper short blocks. All boxed up still. Working at a big rover dealer had its advantages when it all closed up

I thought I heard that someone was plotting to start casting 1275 blocks again?

If that happens the price will make the prices being complained about on this thread look like kids pocket money.

At a guess, a new cast block would be well over £2000. Look how much a new billet crank for a 1275 motor costs, like £1400 new and a block will be considerably more than that.

As a reference, someone has started casting BDA / G blocks heads and cam carriers out of alloy because of the lack of supply and the huge demand. We run them in all of our historic racers. They cost 17 thousand for the rough casting..

I doubt an A series block is going to be re casted any time soon ;)

How do you think it will be, as they have started with heads.

i just read that swiftune blurb and spent about 2 minutes wondering what "proneto cracking" was? i was thinking to myself, "i have never heard that term before" i nearly googled it! lol

pro-neto cracking? whats that lol!

i heard a few years ago that someone abroad was casting a series blocks in aluminium, now that would be cool! allbeit bloomin expensive!

going back to my original point though, 12 months ago i had a sub 30k miles 1275 engine, still in the car on ebay, i put it on once at £300 and not a sniff! so i put it on again as an auction and i got 270 for it! typical! i bet if i still had i wouldnt be able to shift it for decent money knowing my luck with ebay!
