Been a while since I posted on here!

As title says really, I'm going to be cutting my rear bins out today, was just wondering if anyone had any pictures of theres? I just wanted to know how much they've cut off? Or how close they've cut to the bodywork?

Are you cutting them out to fit a roll cage or to replace them?? If you are just replacing them then you will need to drill out all of the spot welds along the front, the side of the seat and the rear arch, the row on the bottom where its welded to the floor and also there are four or five that attach to the rear heelboard as well.

If its for a roll cage and you are deleting them completely then you need to think about the rear seat pan as it relies on the companion bin to form part of its support.

I can't fit my cage as the bins are in the way. I have looked at all the removal threads but there seems to be a lot of different answers whether they are okay to remove or not.

A lot of the threads i have seen with them removed cut the seat pan back to the heelboard so at least that way you do not have to worry about the companion bins. The drawback is there will be no rear seat, that's of course if you want one. this then gives you the option to install a harness bar.

The companion bins then can be completely cut out with no issues. Its really down to what you want to achieve.

So if I cut the rear bins out and also cut the rear seat back to the heel board it'll be fine?

This is what i did but kinda regret now.  I was modding the car for hill climbs but to keep in road going class you need to have the rear bins in place etc.  So it depends if you plan to keep the back seat or not.  You can fit a cage with the bins still in place.

mine had been removed and the rear seat to the heel board as i had a rear cage in and buckets with harnesses... but i regretted it and ive just welded it all back in and kept my rear cage in.... i dont think i could of drilled the holes accurate enough for the cage if the rear bins where still in

cheers james

The only reason I ask is because I've got a rear cage but I can't fit it because the rear bins are in the way

It can be done, so I've been told. Minisport told me the best way was to ratchet the legs to pull them in past the pillar, then bring it in flat into the front and tilt back into the bins. They also told me best to take out the windows just in case! Mine has the bins out and that was headache enough though! Can take some pics later to show what's left.

We tried the ratchet way, but a previous owner must've cut the bottom of the legs off at some point and got them welded back on, so when we pulled the legs together they snapped off again! I'm definitely taking the windows out though, front windscreen and steering wheel as they all got in the way before the legs snapped off.

In rally/race cars for less weight, but I'm looking to get rid to fit a cage.
