Why cant you get the proper fixed needles and use them, swinging needles will also wear the jets (and the needle themselves) and will go out of tune overtime.
Try 7 instead of AAA and GN as a weak needle, 6 if you need a leaner top end than 7.

If concerned about shipping costs from the uk to the states, have you considered the mini stores in the us? At a quick glance, minimania.com has those parts in stock, and 7ent.com (usually cheaper) probably has them, too...
I have on occasion ordered from MM like my exhaust for instance, but truth be told even with shipping it is still cheaper to order from minispares and pay the 10-20 pounds shipping. I will have to check out 7ent. Thanks

Well now you've got me even more confused. I have the fixed needles but they don't fit in the hole in the piston which is much larger than the hub on the fixed needle. It seems to me that it is designed for the swinging type needle with spring and needle guide and doesn't seem interchangeable, but my knowledge is extremely limited.

So you have the pistons but no needle guides, either fixed type or spring type..well if so thats a problem, do you have a pic of those pistons?

I'll try to take some when I swing by the garage later this week, but not sure I can get a picture of the bottom of the pistons because the carbs are on the car. I wasn't aware the fixed needles used guides. From the manual it looks like the needle just goes into the piston then held and adjusted by a set screw, but again I've never done any of this before.
Anyway, I just ordered 2 of the swinging needle guides from 7ent so hopefully I'll have it squared away soon. I will post pics because I still have some concerns about how the fuel plumbing is set.
Thanks again.

Don't you love it when a five minute job, turns into an epic adventure, hang in there ( crosses fingers that nothing gets lost in the mail)
