Hi everyone, i have made a start on getting my rear hi los on.

I have one side completed, but for the petrol tank side i having great difficulty separating the rubber cone from the standard trumpet, they just wont part!

Is there a way you found that work best when you had to separating them?

(I have the cone and trumpet off of the car by the way)

Thanks

iain.

I had to get new cones and trumpets, the old ones are still stuck to this day.

I try to separate them every time I'm in the garage out of principle because I know they CAN'T be permanently stuck, but they haven't bugded after weeks of trying

Actually, thinking about it, if the cone has deformed enough to get stuck onto the trumpet it's probably time for some new cones anyway - and you already have the new trumpets in the form of hi-los :)

It's such a bugger!! haha

It's so annoying because the side i have done, the cone and trumpet just separated when i was taking it out of the subframe, without any forcing at all

I need my car on the road again by Wednesday  O_O

It's mainly to save cost, but you defiantly have a point there...

Soak in WD for a night. Then get something that can go down the doughnut into the come but doesn't come out of the end when the knuckle joint gets pushed out and smash the Buggery out of it. Long metal rod or suchlike.

I had ones that were stuck bad, so I cut the cones right off at the doughnut, and split the cone ring (what was left of it) and yanked the f'er out!

A chisel between the rubber and cone worked for me. Took some effort though.

i found the best way of separating them was to smack the trumpet near the cone with a hammer a few times. the shock seems to break the rust joint

Yeah, a good amount of whack it involved for me.
