does the ribbing on the block actually make a difference beside strengthening. ?

So much for dixi.

This is a classic case of what is known as confirmation bias or attitude polarization; namely tendency to favour information that confirms beliefs. People display this bias when they gather or remember information selectively, or when they interpret it in a biased way. The effect tends to be strongest for deeply entrenched beliefs, known as belief perseverance, when such beliefs persist even though they are shown to be completely at odds with known facts.

These people interpret ambiguous evidence as supporting their existing position and confirmation biases can maintain or strengthen beliefs in the face of contrary evidence or actual experience.

Moss Europe seem to agree with you (and me). See page 09 of their tech advice.

Moss don't agree with you, you are merely repeating their error. An error that Moss copied from the Mini Spares Mechanical Parts Catalogue as did Mini Mania where it is reproduced on their website. Repetition of an error does not make that error correct.

In the same list there is error after error re 9FD coded 998 Cooper engines. There was a thread about this on another forum recently. If you take the time to read the 9FD section and then actually think about it, what is presented as fact doesn't even make sense.

And, talking of not making sense

these mk3S engines are the fore runner to the 1275gt and were inferior to the older and as most of us know cooper S Blocks with open tappet chest with EN40B cranks and AEG117 conrods

Here our no doubt well meaning but ill informed correspondent has overlooked the small but nonetheless rather significant fact that the Mk 3 S was launched six months after the 1275GT.

AEG117 conrods? If you must try and make a point please endeavour to get something correct otherwise JVA10L is going to be searching high and low for these rare items.

Read wisely my friends for the power of ignorance is great.
