The dizzy I'm looking at on eBay is a 45d points distributor. Just making sure this will fit my mini?
(Sorry left my Haynes in Rotherham and I've gone to work In Lincoln so can't look it up)
Thanks all :)

The A+ engines use a different clamp arrangement and drive dog than the earlier 45d yours should have been a 59d rather the clamp round the base it uses a fork type retaining clamp on the body to block

You don't just need 'a dizzy', you need the right dizzy. The components inside the dizzy set its advance curve which is effectively the ignition map for the car. This needs to be well matched to the cam and the car's intended use. There is a 5 number code on the side of your current dizzy, this describes the build of it. You should really replace it with the same model. What exactly is wrong with the one you currently have? Most things can be fixed quite easily.

I think the change to the 59D was around 88 / 89. My '90 had a 59D. Some parts catalogues show 59D being fitted from 1980 but I don't believe that is the case. My '84 had a 45D.

Strange. I'm pretty sure the '89 Thirty I used to maintain had a 59D. I wonder if there was a specific change point or if, since they were essentially both broadly the same, it depended on the typically vague Lucas supply chain?

As an aside...powerspark are worth the price and the tech help is very good. I would personally spend a bit more with PS.

Well actually now I think about it, out of mine the one that I know wasn't original was the '84 with the 45D. It was an import with a much older, A series engine. I know my Checkmate was originally fitted with a 59D because it had the proper F16 engine number which was unique to the Racing / Flame / Checkmate.
