I have a 1992 mini she'll at the moment and I've now fallen in love with the mk1 door style, is it possible to put external hinges on the existing doors or do I need to get mk1 doors?

Yep you can put mk1 hinges on the later doors with some mods. the mk1 doors are slightly different, curve at the bottom and slightly smaller IIRC.

theres a few ways it can be done:

you can buy the overly expensive fake hinges that has a separate hinges inside that opens up when the door opens.

Or

Buy a set of mk1 hinges and put strengtheners on the a-panel and door skin, If you search google "     site: theminiforum.co.uk Mk1 hinges on later doors    "  you can see how others have done it. the bottom of the door is different to mk1's round mk3+ square, so metal can be cut and added to make it look more like the mk1's.
