i'm looking at getting back into stage rallying (clubman level) and just have a few questions for those of you that have built rally cars recently.

i've built rally cars in the past and put webber boxes in and had removeable front ends, my question is;

with the new regulations of no modifications to either bulk-heads, can i still put a webber box in (as the worx cars did)??

if its a no, i have a problem as the shell i have got has already been cut for a box.

the other thing, can i still have a removable steel front if its securely bolted and brace bars?? i always used to compete with my front end like that.

thanx.

Drew.

Can't see the Weber box being a problem but will need to check the Bluebook

I'm pretty sure removable fronts are not allowed...but i'm sure thats another one for the Bluebook.

Welcome to the TMF rally club Drew.

The Weber box should be OK as I had a rally biased, Mini loving, MSA scrutineer going over ours last week & he didn't mention any problem with it!

In case you don't have one, the 2013 Blue Book is on line here;

I really have no idea about the inner wings question. Tomc from here recently posted a similar question about whether flip fronts and associated mods were allowed in hillclimbing on the Uphill Racers forum. I'm almost as confused by the answers he got as I am when reading the Blue Book...!!

I'm now a bit concerned about the Weber box. I was sure the BB said it was permitted to modify the bulkhead for induction, but reading again it only states it may be modified to "accommodate the fitting of an alternative engine and/or gearbox and/or differential and/or axle, seats and exhaust" - I'm pretty sure if there were a problem the scrute I saw last week would have mentioned it, as he was certainly quick enough to point out a problem I have with the roll cage in my Ibiza! I'm hoping that the weber box is covered by "cars with modifications conforming to their homologation papers (46.2)" - but whether all homologation papers cover the Weber mod is another argument. It would seem ridiculous if they allow the bulkhead to be modified to fit a whole different engine, but not a different carb..But there seems to be a whole lot of stuff that's ridiculous in the regs these days...

Sorry, that really isn't that much help, is it?! I shall try & give the scrutineer a ring tomorrow.

if you can please.

there's a few minis that compete at our local events (3sisters and newbrighton rally) that have removeable fronts, they are bolted so are solid, thats why i was asking, but they were all logbooked a few years ago so i dont know if its a change in the rules for newly built rally cars.

the BB is soooooooooo confusing at times, lol

48.1.2.

All bodyshells, inclusive of removable panels

and parts must be of the vehicle manufacturers

specified materials, specifications and minimum

thickness with the exception of bonnet, front wings,

bumpers, hatchbacks, tailgates and boot lids which

may be of alternative materials. Seam welding, and

localised gussets/reinforcement is permitted.

i'm taking that as i can use fibreglass/carbon fibre wings so these can be bolt on ;) lol

I'd say yes, because it excludes front wings. Even though the manufacturers specification is weld on...!!  O_O

Good fun this Blue Book surfing, isn't it?!  :D

Did you get a response from the MSA about the weber box? I haven't been able to get hold of the scrute I know, but I know he'll be at the Epynt hillclimb next week, so if I don't speak to him before I'll ask him then.

Hi,

The following link takes you to the HRCR technical site for a cat 2 mini. This states you can use a weber carb, so that would indicate you must be able to add an air box. It also gives some other interesting options.

Another question though, can you use 4 pot brakes.

http://www.hrct.co.u...ategory-2-mini/

Like you say it is all a minefield and the changing regs do not help the clubman and his costs.
