For a 6ft extension bar not to shift it that's seriously in there. It's a wonder you weren't dragging the car round.

Wondering if one of those mains impact guns Machinemart sell would shift it...450Nm of Torque...about £70 though I think

I'm just going to have to try and reseat the cone and trumpet properly again which shouldn't be too hard and then finish putting everything else back together and take it to the garage and get them to use their impact gun to hopefully undo the bolt and then I'll put it back in if it'll go back in. It's the least they could do.

Well they're both stuck. 6foot long bar on the end of my torque wrench couldn't even shift it. But it was making my torque wrench bend which I didn't think would be possible as it's quite big and heavy.

Better get looking for a new subframe then as I don't fancy getting another place to work on fixing the threads as they'll probably just screw it up too.

And now your torque wrench is all gone pete tongue..

What did they do to the tower bolts? They should be torqued to about 50lbs..did they apply threadlock or whatever..

Try hammering the bolt then use a 3/4 drive with a 6ft pole you should break the seal

Not only are your bolts wrecked, so is your torque wrench. It's not to be used as a breaker bar.

Why change the subframe ? Loads of work for nothing if it isn't corroded, more to the point, why ask for advice, then go back to the same monkeys who messed it up in the first place?

Haven't you learned your lesson yet?

How are you going to reseat the cone and trumpet without compressing it?

Do you really think you can just put the bolt back after it's been mangled like that?

I know it's not a breaker bar, that's why there are breaker bars... I had 2 torque wrenches so why buy a breaker bar when I could use one of the torque wrenches?

I'm going back there so I can record the conversation so I at least have some sort of proof that they are the ones who messed it up.

I have hilos fitted and the cones are old. Easy to do.

I have breakdown cover for a reason.

But thanks for talking to me like a child. Appreciated.

I'd think the reason why you'd not use a torque wrench as a breaker bar is because it will wreck it, no matter how many of them you have. That's really quite an odd philosophy - i have two of something, so it's OK to break one, but still, each to their own.

You can record what you want, you can't divulge it without their permission either that or openly record it, but then you may find the garage has a use for your other unwrecked torque wrench - well it won't get wrecked, more ...well rectum.

Do you think the garage will care much now you've opted to carry out your own repairs? If you tell them the story of you using a 6' bar on a 1/2" torque wrench, they might ask if you were even turning the bolts the right way. I'm puzzled too, if the job was easy - you could have done it all yourself and not now have to go back and try and reason with men who can do up a turret bolt so tight that close on 1000 ft lbs can't get it undone.

Hope the breakdown cover is of use, the last time I used the RAC, I think you got a squirt of WD40 and if that didn't work, a fast tow up the A5 on a short rope.
